One final day of sunshine ahead of our next storm. After several quiet months this winter, March is certainly looking to come in like a lion. The outer edges of the moisture field are visible on regional satellite pictures, but clouds should hold off until later tonight, making today mostly sunny and pleasant, if not cool. The window for rainfall is expected to open towards the early a.m. hours tomorrow morning, but I don’t expect the rain to begin here in Camarillo until later into the daylight hours.
As I mentioned last night, we’re anticipating two waves of storm energy associated with this storm, with a break in between. One small caveat – while the widespread rain is expected to take a break, the threat for possible thunderstorms persists as the cold air mass moves through the region.
Rainfall estimates have ticked up slightly. The first wave is expected to be light, with ¼” to ½” of rain possible, and another ½” to 1” expected Thursday. If thunderstorms develop, these amounts could go higher and quickly, with rain rates approaching ½”/hr. Other hazards will be possible if thunderstorms decide to fire – in addition to very heavy rain, hail, strong gusty winds, and even a possible tornado are all on the table.
A much colder air mass will be left in the wake of the storm for Friday, and additional storms are expected for next week.
