First Look Forecast – Fri 3/7

We’ve had a chilly start to this morning, with temperatures dipping as low as 43° just before dawn at the airport, and 40° CamWX.  Temperatures should recover pretty quickly with all the sunshine today.  Highs should eventually top out in the low 60s.  With the offshore trajectory of yesterday’s 2nd wave of the storm, additional rainfall in Ventura County was limited.  We did see a few convective showers in some areas; however, the rainfall map isn’t showing any accumulation yesterday, so we have to call it a trace at most.  A fabulous, if not cool, day ahead, and then Chamber-of-Commerce weather this weekend, with plenty of sunshine and highs in the upper 60s.

Our attention turns to a series of storms set to pass through the region next week.  Latest models’ runs have trended the low further south, lessening the impacts to Ventura County, but I wouldn’t put too much stock in the models this far out.  If the storm continues tracking further south, it would really limit the amount of rainfall here in VC, but if models reverse course and it trends further north again, rainfall amounts could greatly increase.  Right now, plan for a general amount of rain, and we’ll get a better idea of what we’re in for later this weekend.

We have a second storm forecast for Wednesday, and models suggest this could be the stronger of the two. It’s far too early to get into specifics, but suffice it to say next week is looking pretty cold and wet.
