Two days of great weather ahead, just in time for the weekend. A high-pressure ridge has built in over the state. That, plus weak offshore flow, will help propel temperatures into the upper 60s today and into the low 70s tomorrow. Sunny skies should prevail. Enjoy, because we slip right back into an unsettled pattern to kick off the workweek.
Confidence in the likelihood of rain on Monday continues to decline as the latest forecast models continue to push the track of the first storm further and further south. At this rate, we won’t see much of a chance for rain on Monday at all. A little ridge pops up Tuesday before Storm #2 enters the picture.
The second storm, arriving Wednesday, is forecast to be much more robust and has all the key ingredients to be a major late-season rainmaker. Right now, models call for a 4-6 hour period of moderate to occasionally heavy rain. Preliminary rainfall estimates show 1” to 2” of rain for the coasts and valleys and 2” to 4” in the foothills and coastal slopes. Rainfall rates are concerning, as this storm will likely be capable of rates that well exceed flooding thresholds for the recent burn areas. This storm will likely be one to prepare for, so residents in/near the Mountain Fire burn scar will want to pay close attention and listen for instructions from officials.
